Hull City of Culture

When my brother-in-law and sister-in-law visited us last November they were keen to visit Hull as it was The City of Culture 2017.  I was also keen to see the Martin Parr exhibition at the new Humber Street gallery blogged under exhibitions.  Malcolm had researched one or two attractions and we started out with the new:-

Scale Lane Swing Bridge.

This is the first footbridge of its kind to allow people not only to remain on it while it is in operation but to be able to walk on and off it at the same time.  Having won international awards it crosses the river Hull allowing pedestrian access between the city's museums.

City of Culture

Having enjoyed the bridge, Martin Parr and lunch it was pleasurable taking in some of the sites and new sculpture of the old town.

Land of Green Ginger Parade.

The Land of Green Ginger is a part of the legend of the old city that has various stories to explain it.  Revelling in the myths, legends and stories City of Culture organisers and volunteers allowed  their creativity and imaginations to run free to create models and moving tableaux to explain them during the most amazing night-time carnival parade.
