This project was inspired by a visit to the Neverends exhibition at The Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre (Link to my blog report here). Part of this exhibition featured the work of poet Harriet Tarlo and artist Judith Tucker whose drawings and poems explored the Louth Canal. They are interested in the relationship between the original River Ludd and the canal itself as its industrial past becomes absorbed into semi-wilderness, creating niches for local fauna in its culverts, bridges and locks. My interest was piqued by this reference to wilderness. Walking the length of the canal is something I have long had in mind and, as it combined my investigations into walking in my BOW and my writing on Wilderness in Contemporary UK with Particular Reference to Lincolnshire for my Contextual Studies, I felt that it was time I applied boot to path.
